PRESS RELEASE - Over 250 tones of CO2 offset at Diesel Emissions Conference Asia 2010

Wema, ‘Environmental Sponsor’ of Integer’s Diesel Emissions Conference & AdBlue Forum Asia 2010, is delighted to announce the successful carbon offset of this year’s conference. Between March 23rd – 25,th 2010, Westin Hotel, Beijing, over 300 leading industry figures came together to discuss and debate the most effective way to reduce commercial vehicle diesel emissions in Asia. This annual event was organized by Integer, the leading independent provider of research, consultancy and conferences for the environment and emissions sectors.

To accurately offset the carbon footprint of the conference, various measurements and assessments were made between Integer and ClimateCare. For example, the flight routes taken by each delegate to and from the conference was measured*, duration of hotel accommodation and of course the carbon cost of producing the conference itself. In total 267.88 tonnes of carbon credits were purchased!

“ The Conference is the key forum for sharing knowhow and experience in reducing emissions for commercial vehicles. Emission reduction is essential in enabling sustained economic development and improved life quality. Wema has the clear objective to be a global leader in environmental technologies supplying products and systems for diesel emission reduction. We are proud to enable the Conference to contribute even more to the environment t by offsetting the carbon footprint. This is in line with our core company objectives and the spirit of the Conference” said Bjørn E. Frivik CEO of Wema.

The carbon credits have been invested into the JP Morgan Climate Care Fund which includes carbon reduction projects all over the world including two facilities in China – Mani Hydro Power Station, Yinhe River, Sichuan Province & Qingdao Huawei wind farm.

The Qingdao Huawei wind farm for example, sits on the coast approximately 60km from Qingdao City in Shandong Province, NE China, surrounded by long stretches of salt pans and rolling hills. In total, there are 15 wind turbines spread across 3 locations in the area. The annual electricity generation is expected to be approximately 30,000 MWh per year, which is sufficient energy supply more than 7,000 UK households with clean renewable electricity. This power will be supplied directly to the coal dominated North East China Power Grid.

Tim Cheyne, Director of Environment and Emissions for Integer said, “As the central theme of our conference in Asia was based on reducing the impact that commercial vehicles have on the environment, it is great to be able to significantly reduce the carbon footprint created over the three days”.
